What does DIGISUPER mean?
DIGISUPER 100 xsDIGISUPER is Canon's Super lens, which is employing a digital servo system. Digital servo means that the zoom and focus servo systems in the lens are in a digital format using a 32 Bit CPU as opposed to the conventional analogue format. New generation digital servo offers many new functions that are not possible for an analogue servo system. In addition to these, upgrades of the CPU will make various new functions available in the future. This means that the digital servo system has unlimited possibilities.

Using this type of technology means that highly accurate lens data, as well as 13-bit repeatability, can be directly communicated at very high speed. The lens can easily be adapted to robotic and virtual studio applications. Accurate digital lens data can be communicated bi-directionally between the lens, robotics or computers.
With compatibility in mind, current Super analogue controllers as well as the digital controllers, are both acceptable to the digital servo system.

Digital servo main features:
1. Zooming effect of focus compensation:
When the focus is operated, the angular field of view changes rather like zooming. This is called the zooming effect of focus. This compensation function enables the angular field of view to remain virtually constant by synchronising the zoom movement to the focus movement.
2. New functions available by up-grade:
The brain of the digital servo system is a 32 Bit RISC CPU. We plan to continuously develop new functions for the digital servo system. The lens can be simply updated by replacing the CPU to the latest version.
3. Applicable for serial data interface:
The digital servo system can easily be interfaced for serial data communication, which will be the standard interface between camera and lens in the future.
4. Other functions:
F No. priority zoom limit. One preset zoom position. Reverse direction for both zoom and focus demands. RF noise free.
