Photography to Accommodate Any Style
In addressing user interface (UI), Mr. Yamazaki kept two points in mind: ensuring no disruption to users of earlier generations of EOS cameras; and avoiding confusion for those who are graduating from a compact camera. No EOS M model is equipped with a viewfinder, as they all rely on an LCD panel. So, Mr. Yamazaki devised an arrangement of icons for the menu hierarchy and display. This ensures the camera is easy to operate with both thumbs when it is held in both hands. Also, the EOS M is equipped with a conventional Quick Control screen so that an EOS user can operate it seamlessly. The Quick Control screen is easier to see and provides high legibility even in bright outdoor light.
As stated above, avoiding confusion among those stepping up from a compact camera remained paramount. As a result, the UI that had been refined through generations of compact cameras now accommodates settings adjustments while in live view. In addition, the structure is appropriate for a camera body that is held with both hands. The user can also use both thumbs to quickly and intuitively operate the touch panel with assurance, whether with buttons or through the e-dial. In Playback mode, intuitive operation is assured, as users can cycle through images with a flick of the finger and can zoom in and out by pinching the fingers.
A Range of Appealing Body Colors
To ensure its appeal for a wide range of users and a variety of shooting settings, the EOS M is available in several color variations as a key marketability factor. These colors include the same black as the top EOS models, a deep and highly dignified white, a rich red hue that changes its appearance depending on the angle of incidence of light, and a silver that highlights the gloss of the metal itself. Chosen to appeal to four different color preferences, these body colors make it possible to please a wide variety of users and comply with various settings such as at sporting events or parties, while also allowing for its use as an auxiliary camera. Needless to say, these varied paints and painting methods call for special techniques and have satisfied the strict durability and environmental performance standards required of EOS cameras.
