The Frontline of Camera Design : PowerShot SX210 IS A New Design for Everyday Life

As easy to carry as your favorite pouch

Designed in the belief that everyone can use remarkable technologies with ease.

From the outset, we sought to develop a camera that offered outstanding performance yet was perfectly suited for everyday use. In essence, the starting point for the design of the PowerShot SX210 IS was not the one typically used for a high-performance camera; instead, our first step was to create a conceptual image of a daily-use item — such as a pouch — that was typically used in complete harmony with everyday life. Of course, such an approach would make no sense if it sacrificed camera functionality. The starting point of our design was also the starting point of the overall challenge we faced.

Developing a new design formula

The features and specifications of the PowerShot SX210 IS — including a 14x optical zoom lens, HD video recording, and a 14.1-megapixel CCD sensor — far exceeded those of other models. Moreover, the low-profile compact camera body marked a dramatic shift from the conventional design of the PowerShot Series.
For this product, however, we set out to offer not only excellent performance, but also a new design formula to ensure that its features could be adapted easily to everyday life.
This product is an embodiment of the ongoing efforts of Seishiro Takano, the product designer, and Sayuri Shikata, the color designer, to highlight camera design by combining reality with the ideal.

As a designer of colors for digital cameras and camcorders, Ms. Yomo likes the “luxury shopping” experience of perusing accessory stores and pastry shops and selecting items with which she identifies. Her latest favorite hotspot is the chocolate salon.
