PowerShot SX210 IS A New Design for Everyday Life

PowerShot SX210 IS

A secure grip with a soft form

The genesis of the form of the PowerShot SX210 IS was the soft curves of a pouch. Clearly, the conventional stout convex grip clashed with this soft curved form. On the other hand, a firm grip on the camera is essential for minimizing hand shake, especially when the high-magnification zoom is being used.
Through a process of trial and error, we designed an innovative mode dial on the operation panel. This dial is angled for a better fit when grasped with the thumb, thus ensuring a secure grip without sacrificing form.

Mode dial

Sometimes with boldness, always with precision

The camera body is encircled by a curved silver frame. The bold curves on both shoulders are designed to accommodate the positions of the forefingers when the user is shooting video. A curved recess is provided at the rear, ensuring a secure grip with both hands.
Through repeated experimentation with the size, shape and location of each button and switch, we succeeded in designing the PowerShot SX210 IS to provide excellent ease of use and maneuverability rather than adhering to a conventional design.
