Leveraging the power of the individual and the power of the team
This project differed from the rest of Canon’s frontline design initiatives, as it was a collaborative effort involving four designers. With this system, each of the four designers assumed responsibility for part of the job, resulting in an uncompromising design.
Furthermore, through careful communication, they were able to give the entire design a sense of unity as if it were the work of a single designer.
Clearly, one of the reasons for the success of this difficult and innovative project was the combined effort of the team itself: Mr. Miyazawa, who has been involved in designing professional video cameras over the years, including the XH G1S/A1S; Mr. Kimura, who has vast experience in the design of interchangeable lenses; Mr. Inoue and Mr. Igarashi, who has mainly been in charge of consumer models.
The progress of design
The design of the XF305/XF300 began with a desire to respond adequately to frontline users. By taking a serious approach, Canon has opened up new possibilities. For example, the swivel LCD monitor reveals the potential for new shooting angles. Videographers who are always challenging limits made this novel request, and Canon responded.
As with all such efforts, the design of professional devices continues to grow.
