Realizing Canon Quality

Approach to Quality

Our corporate objectives include creating the world's leading products, offering the highest level of quality and service, and contributing to the betterment of culture throughout the world. To meet these aims, we constantly work to enhance quality by

  • 1.identifying customer needs and utilizing the latest technologies to offer excellent, high-quality products and speedy service, and
  • 2.making every effort to avoid causing harm or damage to consumers and their property as a result of faulty products or services.

Ensuring and maintaining product safety is the foundation of our quality-assurance activities. That will never change.
We are fully committed to earning the trust of customers by providing well-developed services and support along with well-designed products that are easy to use and reliable.
In 2007, to raise awareness of this approach inside and outside the Company, Canon adopted the theme of safety, smartness and satisfaction to reflect the essence of its product quality. To offer customers products that are safe while also providing peace of mind and satisfaction, we implement stringent quality control measures at every stage, from planning, development and production to sales and after-sales service.

Making a Total Commitment to "Quality First"

Based on the Canon Quality policy, the Company has built quality-assurance systems appropriate for the legal systems and regulatory standards of the different countries and regions in which it operates.
Canon Group manufacturing companies and marketing subsidiaries worldwide hold regular meetings in collaboration with Canon Inc.'s Environment & Quality Headquarters and other products operations to develop optimal quality-assurance systems for each geographical region and business area.
In 2007, Canon inaugurated the Quality Innovation Strategy Committee, under the chairmanship of the president of Canon Inc., aiming to further enhance quality. To improve product quality at each phase, from planning, design and production to sales and after-sales services, the committee established and carries out its activities through five subcommittees, which conduct product commercialization processes, reviews and the like.
For example, the Product Realization Process Subcommittee revised and improved the process transition rules based on a policy stipulating that throughout the entire product commercialization process, from design through shipment, there could be no progress from one step to the next without first passing a quality check based on original standards. The improved rules have been clarified through their establishment as the Product Realization Process Quality Approval Rules in 2010, and we began applying them to all products. In 2011, each products operation took measures to notify employees in their group of the revisions to ensure that these rules take hold and are put into affect. In addition, we are working for the application of practical rules by studying and revising as necessary rule-related problems as they arise during new product launches, etc.
At the same time, we are able to make continuous quality improvements by using the product quality data and customer requests received as feedback during the sales through service stages in the product planning and development design processes.
In accordance with the president's policy of total commitment to "quality first," Canon continues to make a concerted companywide effort to implement the activities of the Quality Innovation Strategy Committee and each of the subcommittees.
