A conventional networked multifunction devices is not ready to print at the instant it is switched on, as the fixing area takes time to reach the required temperature.
To solve this problem, Canon developed on-demand fixing technology. The technology incorporates a linear ceramic heater as well as a fixing sleeve that conducts heat efficiently and exhibits a lower thermal capacity. In this design, the ceramic heater contacts the thin fixing sleeve. The heater is activated during printing only. The image is fixed when the toner is heated through the sleeve. This eliminates the need for standby power. This technology has been further refined in the imageRUNNER ADVANCE series, which consumes up to 70% less power than a conventional model.
