Qualified Environmentally Conscious Products
Regulatory Conformance
At the product planning stage, Canon emphasizes compliance with such standards as Japan's Law on Promoting Green Purchasing*1, the Eco Mark*2, and programs like the International ENERGY STAR® Program*3. The table below shows the 2010 rate of compliance of major environmentally conscious products. Our compliance rate remains among the highest in the industry, with many product groups at 100% compliance.
The International ENERGY STAR® Program issued stricter revised energy efficiency standards, from Version 1.0 to Version 1.1 for imaging equipment as of July 1, 2009. Canon is promoting product development aimed at 100% compliance.
Canon is also acquiring certification by eco-label programs outside Japan, and is involved in establishing appropriate certification standards. For example, at the request of the Chinese government, we are working with local agencies to establish environmental standards and environmental labeling. While we develop and design products that meet each country's standards, taking into account global green purchasing laws, we also actively contribute public comments on the procurement standards of governmental organizations around the globe.

- *1Law on Promoting Green Purchasing
The Law Concerning the Promotion of Procurement of Eco-Friendly Goods and Services by the State and other Entities was enacted in April 2001. The law stipulates that goods purchased by the national government and other public entities should be environmentally conscious. - *2Eco Mark
This mark is given to products certified as protecting the environment or reducing the environmental burden throughout the product lifecycle. Begun in 1989, it is the only Type I eco label in Japan consistent with ISO 14024. - *3International ENERGY STAR® Program
This energy efficiency program was announced in 1992 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Products that meet energy efficiency standards have the ENERGY STAR® logo.

Winner of the ENERGY STAR® Award (Energy-Efficient Product Design Category)
Canon USA was the recipient of the Energy-Efficient Product Design Category Award in the 2011 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year awards sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy.
The international ENERGY STAR® Program has served as a basis for Canon's industry-leading, innovative R&D into energy-conservation technologies. In addition to these efforts, the current award was granted in recognition of Canon's approach toward expanding the applications of environmental technology, as represented by the superior environmental features of the monochrome model of our imageRUNNER ADVANCE series of office MFDs, which achieves a 65% decrease in power consumption and broad reductions in CO2 emissions.
This honor brings to 12 the total number of awards gained by Canon since we first participated in the ENERGY STAR® program in 1993.
