Four Canon products earn ‘Best Product’ awards from TIPA
TOKYO, May 1, 2007Four Canon products won “Best Product” awards in 2007 from Europe’s prestigious Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), representing 31 photography and imaging magazines from 12 countries across Europe.
The 10 megapixel Canon EOS-1D Mark III digital SLR camera was named “Best D-SLR Professional.” The TIPA jury praised the camera for its “staggering” 10 frames-per-second continuous shooting speed, as well as many other advanced functions to meet professional demands, including a 19-point autofocus system, a weather-sealed body, a triple mode sensor cleaning system, a permanent Live View mode and a full complement of user-defined custom functions. The judges declared the camera “the ideal tool for professional sport, action and wildlife photography.”
The jury awarded Canon’s EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM ultra wide-angle zoom lens the title of “Best Professional Lens.” Impressed by the redesigned lens’s high contrast levels and resolving power, the judges noted the “edge-to-edge sharpness and contrast throughout the focal range,” made possible by three types of aspherical lens elements. They also commented on a wide range of other features, including how the lens offsets chromatic aberration and suppresses flare and ghosting, as well as its AF-system with improved autofocus algorithms and a near-circular aperture offering “superb rendition of out-of-focus areas.”
The Canon SELPHY ES1 was chosen as “Best Small Format Photo Printer,” commended by the judges for its one-touch operation and all-in-one ink and media cassette. The printer also reduces the risk of spoiled prints by protecting paper from exposure to dust. They also approved of Canon’s DIGIC II image processor, allowing for “near-instant start up and fast operation.” The model’s new print head controller offers 300 x 600 dot-per-inch (dpi) resolution, which the judges described as “a class-leading print resolution for dye-sublimation printers.”
Lastly, the TIPA jury conferred upon Canon’s PIXMA MP810 (PIXUS MP810 in Japan) the title “Best Multifunction Photo Printer.” They praised the model’s ease of use, with the number of buttons reduced to about half the number found on competing multifunction models and Smart LED lights on individual ink tanks to alert users to low ink levels. Additionally, the judges lauded the PIXMA MP810’s speed, flexibility, and performance, calling it “a versatile device that can deliver 4800 x 4800 dpi color scans, and can produce a photo-lab quality 4 x 6 inch borderless photo in approximately 21 seconds.” The jury also complimented the MP810’s long-lasting prints, made possible by a five-tank ChromaLife100 ink system.
Winners of TIPA’s European Photo & Imaging Awards are chosen annually from among photo and imaging products launched in Europe during the previous 12 months from June to May. Having garnered awards in categories for both input and output products, Canon has won wide recognition for across-the-board excellence in its products. An awards ceremony will be held on May 31 in Köln, Germany.
