Product Advisory Statement

Canon has issued a product advisory for a select number of compact personal copiers manufactured and marketed between 1990 and 1993*1. While the likelihood is quite remote, a phenomenon known as tracking*2 can occur on the surface of the circuit boards used in these products, which could present a small risk of smoke emission or fire. Although the company has confirmed that fire will not spread beyond the location of the tracking, Canon is taking measures to ensure that all affected customers can continue using these products with confidence.

No incidents have been reported outside of Japan.

To all customers using the products in question, we extend our sincerest apologies for any inconveniences resulting from this issue.

*1
In Europe, these products were manufactured and marketed between 1990 and 1994.
*2
Tracking: a phenomenon in which various factors such as dust or humidity can result in the creation of a weak electrical current in a location where electricity was not originally supposed to flow, resulting in the creation of a conductive carbon path.
