Product Advisory Statement

Canon has issued product advisories for a select number of copying machines and one model of electronic whiteboard as follows:

Compact personal copiers and electronic whiteboard

In a select number of compact personal copiers manufactured and marketed between 1986 and 1993, and one model of electronic whiteboard manufactured and marketed between 1987 and 1990, aging over time can affect a certain part of the internal circuit boards, which could present a small risk of smoke emission or fire. Although it has been confirmed that fire will not spread beyond the corresponding location on the circuit board, free inspections and preventative measures are being offered to ensure that all affected customers can continue using these products with confidence.

No incidents have been reported outside of Japan.

Copying machines *

In a select number of copying machines manufactured and marketed between 1994 and 2001, the solder used to affix one of the electronic components onto the circuit board can suffer the effects of aging over time, resulting in cracks forming in the solder and presenting a small risk of smoke emission or fire. Accordingly, Canon is offering free inspections and repairs for the models in question.

Additionally, in 2000, it was discovered that condensation forming inside of the same models could result in a remote risk of smoke emission or fire. Beginning in the same year, Canon launched a program to implement remedial measures but, because the measures have not reached all of the units still in use, the company decided to notify customers through this product advisory.

No incidents have been reported outside of Japan.

* These products were not marketed in Europe.

To all customers using the products in question, we extend our sincerest apologies for any inconveniences resulting from this issue.
