Guided by its corporate philosophy of "Kyosei," Canon has been carrying out
activities to conserve the earth's environment, including green
procurement. Our progressive efforts are based on the belief that
green procurement is an important task of a corporation trying
to fulfill its environmental responsibilities.To
promote green procurement, Canon issued the "Global Canon Green
Procurement Standards" and "Global Canon Green Procurement Guidebook" as
early as in 1997.
Since this time, we have regularly reviewed and revised our green procurement standards to reflect trends in society as well as developments in related regulations.
Most recently we made revisions to our controlled chemical substances, which were issued as Version 5.0 in February 2008.
Policies of Green Procurement Standards
[Policies for the Green Procurement of Parts
and Materials]
When procuring parts and materials, Canon asks each supplier to meet
the requirements for "business activities" and "parts and materials" in
two areasconstruction and operation of an "environmental management
system" and "performance" achieved as the result of its operation
(legal compliance, no use of prohibited substances,
reduction in the use of substances targeted for reduced levels of use, and preventative measures against soil and groundwater pollution
in "business activities";
no prohibited substances are contained, no use-restricted substances are contained after a specified period
in "parts and materials").
On the basis of these requirements, Canon will evaluate suppliers
and parts/materials and judge qualification for dealings and procurement.
[Policies for the Green Procurement of Accessories Used in Sales Activities]
For the procurement of accessories used in sales activities, Canon establishes requirements from two points of view, that is, no inclusion of prohibited substances and observance of plans for eliminating use-restricted substances.
[Green Procurement Standards]
Since March 2006, the Green Procurement Standards have been divided into the "Parts and Materials" edition and the "Accessory Materials Procurement for Sales Activities" edition.
Each part sets forth the basic principles of green procurement, standards, and evaluation.

Survey Tools for Chemical Substances Contained in Parts and Materials
The Canon Group conducts surveys on substances in products that affect the environment using the formats established by Japan Green Procurement Survey Standardization Initiative (JGPSSI).
For responding to the survey, please download the survey response tool that JGPSSI provides for these formats as specified below.
Materials pertaining to this survey response tool that JGPSSI issues can be procured from the JGPSSI web site.
