Support for the People's Hope Japan "Program to Improve the Health of Cambodian Mothers and Their Children"

Workshop for public health volunteers
Canon supports the "Program to Improve the Health of Cambodian Mothers and Their Children," which is carried out by People's Hope Japan (PHJ).
PHJ is an international organization providing medical support that has been active since 1997. It conducts activities in Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia, a country said to have the poorest conditions in Southeast Asia. There PHJ carries out activities to improve the state of health of mothers and their children. To accomplish this PHJ operates a mother and child health program centering on the development of human resources and provides donations of medical equipment and educational support among other efforts.
For three years from 2004, as the "Program to Improve Mother and Child Health Services at Health Clinics, Phase I," PHJ achieved a certain degree of success by carrying out earnest support activities rooted in local communities, such as training maternity nurses, establishing medical treatment networks and improving the knowledge regarding health of people in villages.
Furthermore, from 2008 to 2011, as Phase II, in addition to health and sanitation monitoring, the donation of goods and support, the program will involve the provision of nutritional meals and educational activities that target children and their mothers, the training of maternity nurses and other activities to have people adequately acquire the knowledge and master the skills to improve health services for mothers and their children. Canon continues to support this program this year, as it did last year.
