Canon Australia and CiSRA Provide Aid to Forest Fire Victims
Canon Australia and Canon Information Systems Research Australia (CiSRA) provided assistance to the victims of the forest fires that occurred on February 7, 2009, in Australia.
A total of 200 people lost their lives in the large-scale forest fires that ravaged the state of Victoria, Australia, which had been struck by a record-breaking heat wave, making this the worst disaster in Australian history.
As a result, Canon Australia and CiSRA participated in the "Dollar for Dollar" campaign carried out by the Australian Red Cross Society. This endeavor entailed companies contributing funds to match voluntary donations from their employees and donating the entire amount to the Red Cross Society.
As of February 25, the closing day of the campaign, donations totaling Aus$60,607 had been collected from the employees of the two companies. Together with the corporate matching funds contribution, this brought the total to be donated to Aus$121,214.
