Donations by Canon (China) and Canon Group's Chinese Companies to Areas Damaged by Heavy Snows

Donation presented to the Red Cross Society of China
Canon (China) and the Canon Group's companies in China carried out activities in support of the people in areas that suffered from the rain and snow that continued to fall from mid-January 2008, in southern China.
Nationwide 19 provinces, cities and municipalities and 10 million people were affected, and the direct economic losses suffered totaled several tens of billion yuan.
Canon (China), in cooperation with the Canon Group's Chinese companies, called on companies to raise money for the people in the disaster areas, and presented the approximately 500,000 yuan (US$70,000) of donations collected to the Red Cross Society of China on February 2, 2008.
Canon (China)'s President Hideki Ozawa commented:
"Canon's corporate philosophy is kyosei (All people, regardless of race, religion or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future.). This is the time when people in the disaster areas are suffering the most, and, as a member of Chinese society, it is the natural responsibility of us at Canon to extend a hand of assistance to help victims in the disaster areas overcome this adversity on their own."
Vice Director of the Red Cross Society of China's Project Development Department Wang Shunong expressed the following words of gratitude to Canon (China) at the presentation ceremony for the donation:
"We have received assistance from various sectors for the current damage from the heavy snows in southern China. However, Canon was one of the quickest foreign-affiliated companies to respond. As shown by Canon collecting 500,000 within a short period of time, Canon has deep concern and affection for China, contributes actively to the economic development of communities not merely as a corporation and continues to endeavor to fulfill its responsibility as a corporate citizen."
