Aid for Earthquake Hit Areas of Pu'er City, Yunnan Province

Donation present to the Pu'er Municipal Government
Canon (China) carried out aid activities for the victims of the Magnitude 6.4 earthquake that hit Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, in southwestern China, on June 3, 2007.
Over 530,000 people suffered the effects of this earthquake, which also produced direct economic losses reaching 2.5 billion yuan (equivalent to approximately 3.3 hundred million dollars). Upon learning through media reports that the devastated area lacked the necessities for everyday living and especially were greatly short of supplies needed to support the lives of children, Canon (China) called upon its employees to "send shoes for all the elementary school pupils in the disaster area." Consequently, including donations collected through activities to raise funds by its employees, Canon (China) hand-delivered 10,000 pairs of shoes (equivalent to approximately US$ 40,000) to the earthquake victims. This was accompanied by a presentation to the Pu'er Municipal Government of a panel with signed messages of heartfelt prayers for the happiness of the disaster sufferers from each and every employee.
