The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is the UN agency that works to solve refugee problems by offering assistance and protecting the rights of refugees. Since 2006, Canon Inc. has helped the UNHCR through initiatives such as producing promotional DVDs and exhibition panels and support for the Refugee Film Festival.

The UNHCR uses DVDs introducing its activities, taking advantage of various opportunities such as lecture meetings, symposium, classroom visits and school events at junior and senior high schools and universities. Canon extended support for the production of such DVDs.

UNHCR Representation in Japan and Japan for UNHCR proudly presents the 6th UNHCR Refugee Film Festival in Tokyo. The purpose of this festival is to raise awareness of the plight and triumphs of the world's over 42 million refugees and internally displaced persons. The selection of films from across the globe gives voice to seldom-heard stories of hope, despair and resilience.

Film as a powerful medium gives us the opportunity to share with you the many aspects of the lives and circumstances of the refugees. Come and witness stories of strife, courage and human resolve.

From 2007 on, Canon supports this film festival as a special sponsor. Canon is developing promotional activities targeting our employees by holding an annual Refugee Film Festival screening inside the company.

The UNHCR makes its activities and materials on refugees available in the form of display panels and loans them to interested people. Canon supported the production of such panels. The panels thus produced are effectively used at various events, to introduce and promote UNHCR's activities.
