On June 6, 2010, Canon employees and their family members took part in "Walk the World", a charity event organized by the Japan Office of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Japan Association for the World Food Programme.
The event is a walkathon dedicated to ridding the world of hunger, which still afflicts a great number of children across the globe. It is designed to raise awareness of this problem by having participants around the world begin to walk all together at the same time. In addition, 500 yen of the 1,000 yen participation fee is donated to the WFP implemented School Meal Programme.
Canon has taken part in this charity walk since 2006. Participants have increased by the year, and this year's event attracted 166 people from Canon. A further 120 people from the Canon Marketing Japan Group also took part.
A total of 3,601 participants enjoyed this charity walk under blue skies, taking in the beautiful historic sights of Yokohama, such as Aka Renga Park, Yamashita Park, and Harbor View Park.
