Canon Holds Group Walking Event

Kengo Uramoto, Group Executive of Human Resources Management & Organization Headquarters, presents the donation list to Kuninori Tanabe, UNWFP Association Senior Managing Director
From September to November 2010, Canon conducted its "Health Promotion Program: the Canon Group Walking Event." This was the sixth time Canon held this walking event, and this time it was held in conjunction with its social contribution program.
For the event this time, it was deemed that the goal had been "achieved" if a person walked an average of over 10,000 steps a day during the event period, and for every "achiever" Canon donated 100 yen (equivalent to the cost of three days worth of school lunches) to the World Food Programme’s (WFP) "School Lunch Program." 3,300 Canon Group employees and their family members took part in this three-month long walking challenge, and 1,350 of them became "achievers."
The participants offered us their thoughts, such as that "Since in the event this time, one became a volunteer by achieving the goal, the sense of mission was different from events heretofore," "It was an interesting program because one was walking for the sake of someone else; therefore, I was able to participate with a feeling of joy" and "I did my best to walk as much as possible, with the thought that this would contribute to my own health creation and to the hope felt by the children."
On December 21, 2010, on behalf of the Canon Group, Kengo Uramoto, Group Executive of Human Resources Management & Organization Headquarters of Canon, visited the UNWFP Association and presented them with the fruits of this event, a donation of 135,000 yen.
