Seminar by Ms. Inaniwa, a curator at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum

On November 12, 2012, Canon held the Canon Museum Campus, jointly with the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture). This is a special program hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and Canon, a special supporter of “The Metropolitan Museum of Art Exhibition” currently on at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. A total of 44 university students, graduate students and university teaching staff members with an interest in educational programs at art museums were invited to participate free of charge on the day the program was held.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum carries out the “creation of a place for learning” at the museum actively and has named this undertaking the “Art Communication Program.” For the Canon Museum Campus, Ms. Sawako Inaniwa, the curator in charge, incorporated photos and other visuals in her explanation of how the “Art Communication Program” was formed, prepared and carried out.

Following Ms. Inaniwa’s seminar, time was provided for the Canon Museum Campus participants alone to privately view “The Metropolitan Museum of Art Exhibition," which is one of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum’s specially planned exhibitions to commemorate the completion of its renovation. This was a priceless viewing opportunity as it allowed the participants to enjoy a very popular exhibition without a crowd.

This special program, the Canon Museum Campus, was very well received, with the participants expressing impressions such as that, “This seminar was very enlightening, as I was able to experience and see a museum of art as a place of education based on this new approach.”
