Dream
A dream is slightly blurred in color.
Children have never been to the moon,
But, they can dream of rabbits on the moon.
It's sad to see children being too realistic.
Parents should read them stories that invite them to dream,
Beautiful anecdotes in which children believe.
I wish they were children with dreams rather than a lot of knowledge.
Otogizoshi*
Lies are expedient.
In the 1970s, cellular phones, the Internet, and games were all science fiction.
Now they are all used in daily life,
Science advances without bounds.
In "2001: A Space Odyssey," a film by Stanley Kubrick released in 1968,
The computer HAL failed,
There were conversations and games between human beings and the computer.
Now they are reality to us all.
New Sugitama* is green and beautiful, announcing that new sake is available.
I pick up dried fish to taste,
Wondering what will happen to Pluto.
Now, I start on an illusory voyage,
Let me enjoy the long nights of autumn.
* Otogizoshi are short stories (prose narratives) with illustrations that were popular primarily in the Muromachi period (1392-1573).
* Sugitama is a large ball-shaped decoration made of Japanese cedar. The sake winery hangs it in front of the store when the year's fresh sake is available for sale.
You'd better be able to touch stray cats
It's chilly in the shade,
A sunny place is like paradise.
Look at the cats,
Aren't they interesting?
Clouds float and disappear,
Time passes leisurely.
I'd like to ask them what they are looking at.
They sleep for 20 hours and look at the world for 4 hours.
Which is dream or reality?
The relationship between a person and a person,
And the same with a cat's world…
Those I don't like occupy my consciousness.
But, we support each other to live as people.
Don't you think the kanji character for a person resembles a cat's mouth?
Cats eat silvervine and get drunk.
I drink cheap sake and get drunk.
Where shall we go now?
Again we set out on a journey.
Angel of Filaments
In December, everyone's busy and short-handed,
Cats too have little time to arch their backs.
In the evening, they gather to discuss attending
The triangular roof in the grove of the village shrine.
Dim light of a young moon,
Before the night sky turns gray,
Their meeting is put off with nothing agreed upon.
At night the amusement park in Yokohama is lit by gas lamps,
The shadow of a rickshaw,
Hamburger, candy drops, chocolate, and red shoes,
A hotel looks as if the moon has fallen there,
Star light like confetti,
Blue port between night and morning.
How about a cocktail in the lounge?
I ask the bartender for a glass of silvervine martini,
He even puts an olive in it.
Now I'll stop talking about all sorts of things.
Be happy!
Comment of Kouta Hirayama
One year is so short.
My involvement in Canon's project has made me discover seasonal changes .
Childhood in a beautiful hometown;
Cherry blossoms, fireworks in the sky, a picnic at the riverside,
mountain-climbing, autumn festival,
smell of sulfur at a spa,
hot spring buns at a bus stop.
Snow grouses come,
and winter comes.
My memories are fogged in steam.
The future of chemistry changes by the second.
The impossible becomes ordinary, and the good remains.
It is difficult to exist without being compatible.
A craftsman's work looks simple, but I'm surprised by small parts of an ordinary thing.
Crafts made without compromises are more costly than what's cheaply made.
Popular folk-craft is more functionally beautiful with its skillful manual work than artworks.
A comfortable life for myself;
There are people who do not mind getting involved in such a selfish life.
My selfish desire might only to be protect my comfortable life.
Concise letters of a typewriter,
For table of elements rather than diamonds.
Beauty of Ginkakuji Temple (Silver Pavilion) rather than Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion),
And, the movingly beautiful Statue of Maitreya (Miroku Bosatsu) of Koryuji Temple.
The older I grow, the more I want to explain.
"Feel it rather than think."
Sorry for using a quote, but
These are the words of Bruce Lee.
Thank you very much for the kindness you showed me throughout this year.
