After the Rainy Season

At the sound of waves and scent of the shore, all rush as one to the sea like baby turtles.

We long for that time spent nurtured in the internal cosmos of our mother's womb.

The grassy places are a sanctuary where children gather. In summer they search raptly for insects amid the thick and sultry vapors exuded by the grasses.

Upon perusing through one of my old books, I unexpectedly find a single maple leaf bookmarker within.
I have no memory of it.
If not by me, then who could have hidden it there, and when, And for what reason?
The mystery deepens,
And the desire to know will not leave my mind.

Dressed in the Gold of Fall

The maidenhair (ginkgo) tree is a wondrous living fossil from the age of the dinosaurs.
May be because at a thousand years old its vigor still flourishes robustly,
The flesh of its fruit is used even in tonics.

The Poet's Forest

The hunchbacked poet,
Equipped with jasmine tea and black chocolate, Hides away in the forest.
The forest is the poet's study.
The forest makes the poet.

The Last Persimmons Against a Snowscape

Dried persimmons were once a precious source of vitamins for people living in snowy climes.
Now, with the multitude of delicious things to eat, we treat persimmons with indifference.
How regrettable.
Oh, how I would like to eat a dried persimmon.
