About the Artist

Yoko Oshida was born in 1952 and resides in Tokyo. She is functionally impaired in all four limbs from cerebral palsy. Between 1986 and 2007, she studied the art of children's illustrations at an education center for the disabled, and she continues to produce works that are notable for their lyricism and emotional depth. She has won numerous awards, including the Incentive Award at the 13th General Exhibition of Disabled Artists, the 12th Artbility Grand Prize, the Asahi Breweries Incentive Award, the 21st Artbility Grand Prize, and the Hitachi Capital Special Award. In 2001, she held her own highly acclaimed exhibition under the title the Honobono Show.

Yoko and her works have also been featured on television, on such programs as NHK's daytime Kanto regional information show and TV Asahi's Tokyo Site.

In addition, Yoko is active with a chorus made up mainly of disabled members and writes her own original lyrics.
