No.12 An Angle with a Pipe
"Christmas Cards" is a poem I wrote about a Christmas scene involving my little nieces and nephews long ago.
No.11 "A Walk at Night"
This painting, A Walk at Night, is a work filled with many memories of my mother.
No.10 "Coastal Highway"
Of my paintings, Coastal Highway is my favorite. That is because I feel it does a good job of expressing the mysterious quiet of the night.
No.9 "Cosmos and Butterflies"
In Cosmos and Butterflies, a recently completed work, I have painted cosmos flowers from a fond memory of cosmos in bloom in a lane that, sadly, has now been cleared of them.
No.8 "HAPPY WEDDING"
The art class I attend is in a building with walls of floor to ceiling windows and a verdant garden in front. It is a very pleasant place where in summer fruit from the plum trees there ripen and fall to the ground to our delight.
No.7 "The Sea by Moonlight"
I began this work thinking that I would like to paint a Japanese style wave pattern for the background. At that time, I decided that I would like to make the theme "the ocean!"
No.6 "Chasing Stars"
I created this work as an entry for a picture book contest. Around then, the media would often feature paintings and architecture by Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
No.5 "Avonlea from Afar"
Avonlea is the beautiful village where the redheaded Anne, from Lucy Maud Montgomery's novel "Anne of Green Gables," lived.
No.4 "The Land of Alice"
The idea for The Land of Alice sprang from a painting I happened to see at a nursery school that was created by a small child attending the school.
No.3 "Spring Snow"
I have viewed the works of printmaker Yoko Yamamoto at exhibitions. Of her many works, I find myself fascinated by a set of prints depicting the sky.
No.2 "Lilies and a Child"
One cold winter day, my uncle passed away.
On the way home after his funeral, a white cat ran pass with vigor across my path, right before my eyes.
No.1 "Album of Memories"
"Album of Memories" is the toy chest of my mind.
I have a memory of going to play with a friend in her room when I was little, and being impressed at the sight of her toys so tidily lined up in a box on a shelf.
About the Artist
HATA Mikiko, born in 1954, currently lives in Osaka Prefecture.
She initially aspired to be a professional electronic organ player, but gave up this dream when she lost her right arm as a result of a traffic accident.
Thereafter, she fell in love with painting, which she began as a part of her physical therapy following that injury. Her talent blossomed, and she is now active as a popular Artbility artist.
The distinctive characteristics of HATA's paintings are the beauty of her use of colors and her bold motifs. She explains that she would like to create works that make the viewers feel happiness and joy.
HATA was awarded the 15th Artbility Grand Prize.
