Canon named Best Citizen in China
Canon’s social contribution activities in China earned the company honors at the Best Corporate Citizenship in China 2004 Awards, and was announced at The 21st Century Business Herald.
The 21st Century Business Herald, China’s leading national business weekly newspaper, organized the newly established Best Corporate Citizenship in China Awards, which recognize companies that carefully consider their overall impacts on all corporate stakeholders, based on the view that a company’s prosperity is closely linked to the health and the welfare of society.
Canon’s social contribution activities in China are as follows:
- The establishment in 1998 of the Beijing University Canon Scholarship Fund, which, to date, has supported almost 400 students.
- The donation in 2003, during the height of the SARS epidemic, of a complete Canon digital radiography system to Beijing Hospital to fight the spread of the virus.
- Planning and organizing “Digital Experience” activities for hearing- and speech-impaired children, providing them with opportunities to try out popular hi-tech digital products.
