Canon Inc. held an environmental course at Ota Ward Tamagawa Elementary School on December 21 and 22, 2006. It is a Canon environmental education program, in which global environmental issues that are being discussed around the world today are examined to provide school children with a chance to think about what they can do to preserve the environment.
In a class entitled “Let’s learn about the importance of the environment using a printer, the earth’s problems and Canon’s ideas,” global warming, which has become a serious problem worldwide today, was taken up, and all of the participants thought about what they could do.
With a printer as an example, Canon’s approach to environmental issues, such as the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle), was introduced. A printer was dismantled and divided into metal and plastic parts, and it was confirmed that printers are made of easily recyclable materials.Children gave their impressions of the course: “I learned a lot because I studied what I didn’t know, and I saw what is usually hidden,” “From now on, I’ll think about the environment when I go shopping,” etc.
