Environmental Education Traveling Class: “Precious Resources and Recycling”

The class being taught
On February 15, 2013, three classes of sixth graders, a total of 90 pupils, from the Ota Ward Omori Daiichi Elementary School participated in Canon's environmental education traveling class on recycling. This program introduced the children to the effort to recycle toner cartridges by using actual used cartridges and videos. It taught them the importance of reducing trash and reusing resources.
The class had the children take on the challenge of conducting an experiment to sort materials composed of four different types, such as iron/metals and plastics, by using magnets, water, etc. Through these experiments they experienced recycling as it is carried out by companies using the properties of materials. Comments from the participating pupils included “I really enjoyed the experiments” and “I now have a good understanding of the importance of recycling. I want to practice it at home.”
Hereafter as well, Canon would like to continue to introduce its efforts to protect the environment and would like to carry out activities that communicate the importance of environmental protection to the next generation.
