Canon Dalian has established the "Canon Scholarship Program" at the Dalian University of Technology, a national key university of China.

This scholarship program came into being through a proposal made by Canon's President Tsuneji Uchida, when he visited Dalian for the "Canon Japanese Language Speech Contest." The program's goal is to provide educational opportunities to outstanding people who will shoulder the responsibility for China's development hereafter and awards scholarships to ten students for whom continuing their education is difficult for financial reasons.

At the awards ceremony held on the campus of the Dalian University of Technology on October 25, Canon Dalian's Chairman and President Hiroshi Sugai encouraged the students with the words "When I see the sparkle in the eyes and the earnestness of you students, I am firmly convinced that you will be able to overcome any difficulties."

In response, a representative of the students uttered words strongly pledging that "Never ever forgetting our feelings of gratitude to Canon, who has given us an environment in which we can receive our education with a sense of security, we will not fail to contribute to the growth of society in the future with the knowledge we have acquired by undertaking our studies with great energy."

Canon Dalian also newly constructed the Canon Library for a local Elementary School, in Changhai Prefecture, Dalian, on October 29, and on November 2, donated beds and dressers to the dormitory of a recently merged middle school, housing students who were not able to commute due to the merging.
