Tag Rugby Class

Orientation
Starting in June, 2010, Canon started a program in which staff and players from Canon's rugby team the Canon Eagles teach children tag rugby for elementary schools in the Ota-ku area where Canon headquarters is located.
Tag rugby uses an elliptical ball and, instead of tackling, players try to pull off one of two tags (flags) that hang from both sides of opponents waists. Because of this, tag rugby is extremely safe and can be enjoyed by boys and girls of all ages.
The tag rugby class is conducted for two hours during the elementary school's gym class. The first hour is spent learning the basics of the sport, and the second hour is used to actually play a few matches. Even students using an elliptical ball for the first time are able to enjoy playing the game by the second hour. At the same time, students learn the importance of the rugby spirit in congratulating each other after the game ends and leading their team with captainship.
Through this activity Canon conveys the wonder of rugby while also fulfilling social responsibility through supporting local sports activities.
