The 5th Hong Kong Secondary School Students Japanese Speech Contest, cosponsored by Canon Electronic Business Machines (H.K.), took place at the University of Hong Kong on April 25,2009.
The contest is designed to encourage Hong Kong high school students in their Japanese language studies. It doubles as the Hong Kong qualifying round for the finals, held in Japan, of the Japanese Speech Award organized by the NPO the Education Guardianship Group.
There were fifteen entrants in the reading category and eleven in the speech category, with one winner and two runners-up being selected from each. The successful contestants were presented by President Masunaga of Canon Electronic Business Machines (H.K.) with Chinese-language models of the Wordtank V923 electronic dictionary.
