Canon Vietnam Hosts Signing Ceremony for FY2010 Canon Friendship School Chain Project

Canon Vietnam Co. Ltd. announced at a signing ceremony held with local government officials on July 9 that it will continue the Canon Friendship School Chain Project, a program designed to establish educational environments in economically disadvantaged areas.
Founded in 2007, the Canon Friendship School Chain Project is a social support initiative that builds schools and fosters an educational environment for children living in mountainous areas of Vietnam and other regions of the country. Over the past four years, the program has so far provided support to 16 schools.
Over the coming year, four schools are scheduled to be built in the Phu Tho, Lang Son, and Bac Ninh provinces. In addition, such facilities as restrooms and hand-washing stations are also planned for construction.
In a speech delivered at the signing ceremony, Canon Vietnam Plant Manager Kazumasa Sakurai said that he was glad that, through the Canon Friendship School Chain Project, Canon Vietnam could provide schools to children and teachers. With the continuation of this project, Mr. Sakurai conveyed his hope that the educational environment in Vietnam will further improve.
Following the signing ceremony, Dinh Phu Huu, a government representative from Thanh Ba district, Phu Tho province, expressed his gratitude for the contributions by Canon Vietnam.
Canon Vietnam and Canon Singapore's representative office in Vietnam are currently planning to donate books collected internally and across the nation to the new schools.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from media outlets, including Vietnamese television stations, with great interest.
