In July 2007, Canon Vietnam announced that it would undertake the “Canon Friendship School Chain Project” to support the construction of schools in regions within Vietnam lacking such facilities, under the policy of advancing the improvement of the education environment for children, who will be responsible for the country in the next generation. At the ceremony for the signing of a memorandum with the government of Vietnam, Canon Inc.’s President Tsuneji Uchida explained that, under the corporate philosophy of kyosei, Canon will be actively promoting activities that contribute to society.
Present at the signing ceremony were the vice minister of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the chairperson of the People’s Committee, composed of the three provinces targeted for aid during the current fiscal year, and parties involved in the establishment of schools and several people from the media, among others.
Hereafter, Canon Vietnam will be providing aid for the new construction, enlargement and rebuilding of schools in least three provinces every year until 2010, for the twelve provinces in northern Vietnam.
