On June 20,2009, Canon Vietnam hosted the signing ceremony for the Canon Friendship School Chain Project, which is now in its third year.

The Canon Friendship School Chain Project, one of Canon Vietnam’s philanthropic programs, is a project to build schools and educational infrastructure for children in mountainous areas and other economically disadvantaged regions of Vietnam. Since its launch in 2007, it has provided support to eighteen schools in seven provinces.

This year’s plan is to build new elementary schools in the four provinces of Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Bac Giang, and Bac Ninh.

At the opening of the signing ceremony Canon Vietnam President Sachio Kageyama remarked, “Children are the treasure on whose shoulders a country’s future lies, and this project is for us an important CSR program. The production activities and philanthropic efforts we have undertaken to date would not have been possible without the support of the Vietnamese government and many different agencies and people’s committees. We look forward to your ongoing support and cooperation in the future.”

Mr.Tran Van Tao, a senior official with the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, then spoke on behalf of the guests. “Our country’s greatest concern is always the education of our children. Canon Vietnam’s School Chain Project will, I believe, further strengthen ties between Vietnam and Japan.”

After the signing ceremony Du Van Le, deputy chairperson of the Que Vo People’s Committee, expressed gratitude on behalf of the four provinces for Canon’s timely assistance in creating a better learning environment for local children.

Canon Vietnam intends to continue working for the betterment of Vietnamese society.
