Employees Participate in Forest Creation Activity

Clearing away weeds
As part of its environmental conservation activities, on November 6, Canon participated in a forest creation activity at Wakasu Kaihin Park in Koto Ward, Tokyo.
This activity is an endeavor under the Uruoi-no-mori (verdant forest) Project, a forest creation effort that Canon has been supporting since last year. Organized by the Community Partnership Support Center, this project works in cooperation with Wakasu Kaihin Park to carry out tree planting based on the theme of "working together to create a coastal forest along Tokyo Bay capable of sustaining beetles."
The 26 employees and their family members who volunteered to participate cleared away weeds that had grown around the 100 saplings that Canon volunteers had planted for this project last year. In addition, they also planted seeds to grow trees in a new block of the project.
Stakes where driven into the ground to mark the old and new blocks worked on this year, and these two blocks will be managed as Uruoi-no-mori blocks. There are plans to display the Canon company name as a cooperating corporation on these blocks.
From the impressions expressed by the participants, it was evident that this was a valuable opportunity to learn about the importance of trees. The volunteers offered comments such as that, "I enjoyed being able to participate in the work to increase greenery in Tokyo," "this was a valuable experience, as I now understand how hard it is to do the actual work and to care for the planted blocks," and "around the time the acorns I planted with my own hands sprout, I want to come again and see what they look like."
The Tokyo Gate Bridge will be completed next year, improving access to Wakasu Kaihin Park from the Ota Ward side. Let's all go and enjoy Uruoi-no-mori Forest then.
