Mt. Mitake

The ranger comments on nature along the hiking course
On October 21, 2007, Canon carried out its nature conservation program for employees and their family members, in the Mitake area. This was done in cooperation with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Environment and as a part of Canon's nature conservation activities and activities to educate employees.
The objective of this program is to have employees and their families learn about nature conservation by having them actually observe and experience the activities of Metropolitan Government rangers, something people are not able to do ordinarily. The participants hiked on Mt. Mitake and took part in cleanup activities with a ranger as they listened to the ranger talk about the state of conservation activities and about nature.
The group headed out for the summit of Mt. Hinode at 10:30. Listening to the ranger talk about the natural environment of the Mitake area, they deepened their knowledge and understanding of the flora and fauna inhabiting familiar environs.
Approximately two hours after departure, the group arrived at the summit of Mt. Hinode and found the view from atop the mountain outstanding.
This activity became an opportunity to learn about nature conservation, as seen in the sentiments expressed by the participants. One comment was that "Although hiking is usually the only objective for going to a mountain, there is a sense of fulfillment in hiking as one listens to explanations about individual plants and the natural environment, as we did this time, and I was also able to broaden my horizons."
