CMTW supports local tree planting event
Children plant tree saplings during the Million Trees Project
On April 23, 2011 Canon Marketing (Taiwan) Co., Ltd. (CMTW) supported the Million Trees Project, a tree-planting activity organized by the Taipei city government and the Hima Foundation (NPO).
Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou and Taipei City Mayor Hau Lung-pin joined approximately 15,000 local residents to plant new tree saplings at the Fu-De Environmental Preservation Park. From Canon, CMTW President and CEO Atsushi Kamata and many employee volunteers also took part in the event.
For this initiative, CMTW donated 1,000 saplings as a means of contributing to the local green landscape, protecting against strong winds, and decreasing soil erosion. The saplings, which are native to Taiwan, were planted by hand during the event by volunteer staff.
Mr. Kamata said at the event that he was delighted to work together with so many local citizens during the tree-planting activities. He added that, as a part of Canon's corporate philosophy of kyosei, CMTW will continue to actively take part in social contribution efforts and green initiatives in Taiwan
A Canon booth was set up at the event, allowing volunteers to have their photo captured with a Canon EOS 550D and output using the company's PIXMA-series inkjet printers. In addition, CMTW also presented participants with tree-planting certificates that had been printed out using a Canon imagePRESS C7010VP color digital press.
The tree-planting event received wide news coverage by members of the local media.
