Canon Vietnam Holds Signing Ceremony for Reforestation

The signing ceremony
On December 18, Canon Vietnam held the signing ceremony for a reforestation project called FOR A GREEN VIETNAM, with the People's Committee of the Luc Ngan District of Bac Giang Province and the same district's Cam Son Protective Forest Management Board.
This project was inaugurated in 2009, as one of the company's activities to contribute to society, which are based on the theme of environmental conservation and cultural preservation. Reforestation reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) and the effects of typhoons, floods and other natural disasters and protects the environment of Vietnam. Canon Vietnam's president, Sachio Kageyama, and representatives of the People's Committee of the Luc Ngan District and the Cam Son Protective Forest Management Board were present at the project's signing ceremony.
Canon Vietnam will be undertaking a variety of Social Contribution Activities directed at environmental protection, not only in-house, but also through endeavors such as sending personnel to local schools to conduct classes and participating in activities to beautify the To Lich River.
The current FOR A GREEN VIETNAM project will provide financial assistance to reforest 20 hectares of protective forest in the Luc Ngan District. This is the equivalent of the area of the grounds of one Canon Vietnam factory, and it is projected that the volume of carbon dioxide discharged will be reduced by about 20 tons a year as a result of this activity.
At the ceremony, President Kageyama stated that, "Environmental problems have become very grave. I believe that protecting the environment is the responsibility of not just a specific individual or organization, but of all people worldwide."
Following this speech, the Director of the Luc Ngan District's Cam Son Protective Forest Management Board, Nguyen Duc Cau, presented a greeting, saying that "We are grateful for Canon Vietnam's invaluable cooperation and support. Hereafter as well we will continue to devote effort to making this project a success."
In addition, in March 2010, an actual reforestation activity is scheduled to be conducted with the cooperation of 500 high school students from the outskirts of the Luc Ngan District. Furthermore, in the future, Canon Vietnam will be broadening its FOR A GREEN VIETNAM endeavor by developing it in many other areas of the country.
