Canon Inc. sponsored “UNEP International Photographic Competition on the Environment 2004 - 2005,” a project organized by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme).

Under the theme “Focus on Your World,” the competition aims to increase people’s awareness of environmental issues through photographs. Canon has been the sponsor of the contest since it was first launched in 1991.

Following the announcement of the winners, an award ceremony took place in Japan in March 2005. The award-winning works were exhibited in the United Nations Pavilion throughout the 2005 World Exposition, to be held in Aichi, Japan (25 March - 25 September). The photos then were displayed as part of a global tour.
