1. Shibuya Ward Sanya Elementary School

Canon held the project at Sanya Elementary School in Shibuya Ward on Tuesday, May 18, 2004. Collaborating with “Eco-Net Shibuya,” a local organization promoting environmental studies, it was held as part of the school curriculum, and 28 sixth grades of Sanya Elementary School took part.

A photographer showed them photographs taken by children from around the world, and gave them useful advice on taking photos. After that, the children traveled to Meiji Shrine. On their way, they took pictures of trees along the major roads, as well as plants, flowers, and insects on the railroad bank. The children used Canon PowerShotA80 cameras to photograph nature as they pleased, and tried hard to record their works until they were satisfied with them.

After they came back to school, she gave comments on their works. Each child chose one of their favorite pictures, output it with an ink jet printer, put the picture in a picture-frame, and brought it home as a souvenir.

2. Shiwa Town

Canon held the project in Shiwa town, Shiwa-gun, Iwate Prefecture, on Saturday, May 29, 2004. It was held in Shiwa town, which won the Environment Minister Award 2003 in the area of “Municipal Development in Circulation, Coexistence, and Participation,” and collaborated with “Shiwa Mirai Kenkyujo,” a local NPO promoting environmental and educational activities.

Sixty-seven children took part in the morning course and the afternoon course. After listening to the photographer’s advice and suggestions, they took wonderful photographs full of fresh sentiments after the rain, which were possible through only the children’s viewpoint.

Children’s photographs were printed by inkjet printers. Each put a picture into a picture-frame to take home.
