7. Taito Ward
Canon held the project in Taito ward, Tokyo on Saturday, July 10, 2004. Twenty-one members of the Children Environment Committee took part. This committee is co-managed by Taito Ward and Taito Environment Promotion Net.
After listening to the photographer’s lecture, they moved to Ueno Park. The surface of Shinobazu-no-ike pond was covered with pretty pink lotus flowers, and elegantly swimming carps came in and out of sight. Each children took pictures of whatever interested them.
After taking photographs, each child chose one of their favorite pictures, output it with an ink jet printer, and put the picture in a picture-frame to take home.

The photos taken by children around the world interest the participants.

9. Setagaya Ward
Canon held the project in Setagaya ward, Tokyo on Saturday, August 14, 2004. It was held as part of “Setagaya Eco-Up Explorers” sponsored by Setagaya Environmental Study Leaders Council. Parent-child pairs living in Setagaya Ward gathered at a youth house run by the ward. This photography project was a night tour to observe the emergence of cicadas and creatures such as bats at Todoroki Valley in the evening. There were 37 participants including children visiting for one day.
After listening to photographer’s lecture, just before sunset, they went to Todoroki Valley carrying their digital cameras with them. Upon finding something interesting, some children took pictures while holding a flashlight in one hand and a digital camera in the other. Some others directed their cameras to the darkness and tried to take photographs by triggering the flash. When full darkness fell after sunset, they finally found a newly emerged cicada. The children surrounded it quietly to take pictures.
Coming back to Youth house, children chose their favorite pictures to print immediately with an ink-jet printer. As another session watching stars followed, they were presented with their framed pictures next morning.
