Canon Junior Photographers 2005 Exhibition was held

Canon Inc. held its photo exhibition “Canon Junior Photographers” at “umu,” multi - purpose space on the 1st floor of TV Asahi at Roppongi, Tokyo, from November 2 to 7, 2005. “Canon Junior Photographers” is a photo project that aims to increase children’s awareness of the environment and to nurture their sensibility. The exhibition was organized to introduce the year’s activities of the project.

For the year 2005, a digital camera course and photography field trip were held at a total of 13 places from May through September, which included 8 places in Tokyo, 2 in Hokkaido, and 1 each in Shiga, Oita, and Miyazaki Prefectures. In the exhibition, all the works of 750 children who took part in the program were displayed, with the titles given by the children.

At the exhibition hall, several children’s works were arranged on each large-sized paper 240cm lengthwise and 100cm crosswise. The photo prints were divided into groups entitled uniquely such as “Trash Heap - Three Brothers,” “Praying Mantis Climbing Mt. Prickle,” and “One! derful.” Photos that show how keen the children were on taking pictures were also on display.

Many visitors to the exhibition, including children who participated in the program, their families and passers-by, looked at each work carefully. Some visitors’ comments given below indicate that the exhibition was well - received. “I’m very impressed by the viewpoint that only children can have.” “Every work is smile - provoking. They make me feel happy.” “I hope that this sort of activity will continue.”

Canon will go on with this project in cooperation with local citizens to enhance promotion and education to increase children’s awareness of the environment, and to nurture their sensibility.
