At first, photographer, Hikaru Nagatake, introduced the works of last year’s project participants. The children cheered each work, which was displayed on a large screen, and listened attentively to the photographer. Then, each child received a digital camera, and listened to the staff give brief instructions on how to operate it.

After the lunch break, outdoor fieldwork began in a unique environment within several minutes walk from the school. There were various subjects to be photographed, such as a garden in a private residence, rice paddies, and a nearby pond in which ducks were swimming. In fact, as it turned out that the private house was the residence of the parents of the fifth grade class teacher’s wife, the participants were able to enter the house to take photos. It seemed that one hour was not long enough for taking photographs outdoors, and some children were unwilling to return to school so soon.

Having taking pictures, each child had their favorite photo printed out, and put it in a picture frame. They made their own works unique by adding words and/or pictures to the frames. When they had finished, they arranged all of them together so that they could appreciate their friends’ works. Some of them presented their works in front of classmates.
