It is recorded in history that Japan’s largest lake, Lake Biwa, dates back four million years. Near this lake is the Yamada Community Center, which was the base for this event. The Center is located along an old street extending to an agricultural area, which commands a close view of majestic Mt. Hiei.

The locations of photography were the grounds in two Shinto shrines near the Center. Around both shrines are rice fields, and in the grounds are dense forests where creatures such as cicadas, dragonflies, and frogs seek sanctuary. Though they were annoyed by mosquito attacks, each child ran about cheerfully with a digital camera hung from the neck, looking for subjects to photograph, and discoveries or surprises to be experienced on the day.

Upon coming back to the Center, each child chose a favorite photo, printed it, and put it in a photo-frame to complete the work. Then, all the works were arranged in order on desks for appreciation. At the presentation meeting, the girls took the initiative in raising their hands, and talked about their photos. The adults who were participating looked very impressed. Even after the meeting, the children worked together to give their photo frames finishing touches, which was also impressive. They will certainly remember this event as a happy memory of the summer vacation.
