Hananoki Elementary School is located in central Chichibu city, seven to eight minutes’ drive from Seibu-Chichibu station on the Seibu Ikebukuro line. From the school in its lovely natural setting, you can enjoy views of the Chichibu mountains including Mt. Buko, a noted mountain in Chichibu. In the large schoolyard where this photo session took place there are many items of equipment such as a jungle gym and tires. Loud voices of children can be heard during recesses between classes .

 On the day of the event, the sunlight was as strong as in midsummer. At first, the children were a little nervous about having cameras. By the time the session started, however, they looked relaxed and began to search for subjects in the schoolyard —under shiny green trees or around a pond in the courtyard. Trying one way after another, choosing telephotographic mode or macro-mode, which they had learned about in the prior training, they photographed Mt. Buko, clouds flowing over the mountains, mushrooms they found in a corner of the schoolyard, etc. Thus, the photo session was over in no time.

 After the photo session, each of them arranged their favorite photos in front of the class . They said, “Where did you take it?” when they saw a beautiful photo or a photo that they had never seen before. Voices of admiration were heard. Then, they raised their hands to give presentations of their photos in front of the classmates.
