All applicants to the New Cosmos of Photography must apply over the Internet using the New Cosmos of Photography Web Entry Application system (hereafter called "Web Entry Application system"). As such, applicants must have access to a PC capable of running a Web browser that permits the viewing of the New Cosmos of Photography website (canon.com/scsa), and be able to print out PDF data. (Please refer to the Q1 of Q&A section if you do not have it.)

Submitting works requires an Entry Number, Entry Cards and a Consent Form (the Consent Form is only necessary for applicants under the age of 16), which will be issued by the New Cosmos of Photography Secretariat through the Web Entry Application system.

Entry application procedure

The Web Entry Application system has five functions available, such as submission of personal information, submission of the information of the works, and so on.

1. Enter application data using Web Entry Application system
  1. (1) . Please fill out all the personal information on the application form of the Web Entry Application system, check the information for accuracy and then submit your application. As soon as you submit your application, it will be immediately processed. Provided there are no technical problems, your Entry Number will appear on the Web Entry Application system. Please be sure to write this number down and your password to keep it for your records.
  2. (2) . In addition to the personal information, the information of the work is required. The application will be accepted with that submission. You can modify the information of the work many times during the works acceptance period. So, you may temporarily submit it.
  3. (3) . A Download button will also appear on the screen. Please use the Download button to download and save the PDF files containing your Entry Cards and Consent Form. The PDF files will be required when you send your works.
  • The above (1) procedure will be acceptable until June 13 (Wed.).
  • The above (2) procedure will be acceptable until June 20 (Wed.).
  • Please note that the above two procedure should be carried out as early as possible regardless of when the actual works are created or submitted. An early application will provide enough time take care of any problems that may occurprior to the deadline. Last-minute application run the risk of missing the submission deadline.

2. Print Entry Cards

Please print out the downloaded PDF files on A4-size paper. Four copies of the same Entry Card will be printed out on a single sheet of A4-size paper.

3. Complete entry work

Please complete the entry work you will submit.

You can correct the information of the works already submitted in the Web Entry Application system when you need to change it. The Entry Number and the password will be required for that procedure. The information can be modified many times during the works acceptance period. The new Entry Card will be downloaded when you finish modifying the information of the work. Then please proceed again to the first procedure 1-(3).

4. Make copies of Entry Cards, write in Item Numbers

In the case of entries consisting of multiple photo books or multiple individual 3D objects, or entries made up of multiple photo prints, photo panels or framed photos, please follow the instructions below, using the Entry Cards printed out in Step 2.

In the following instructions, please note that Item Number refers to the number of photos or items that make up an individual entry work.

  1. The number of the Entry Cards you will need is the same as the number of items that make up your entry work (equal to the Item Number). Furthermore, if you submit photo books in cases and would like the cases returned following the conclusion of the contest, you will also need to prepare an additional Entry Card for each case (the cases should not be included in the total Item Number count). As such, please prepare additional Entry Cards for all photo book cases as needed.
  2. Please write the Sequence Number on each Entry Card using a black ballpoint pen. The Sequence Number should begin with "1" and should increase sequentially for each successive item. Please be sure that the Sequence Number on the last Entry Card matches the Item Number that appears on all of the Entry Cards. There is no need to write the Sequence Number on the Entry Cards for the cases accompanying photo books.

5. Attach Entry Cards to entry work

Please attach the Entry Cards to your entry work as described below, based on the format of your entry. The Entry Cards should be attached so that they are clearly visible from the front of each item that makes up your entry.

(1) Book
Please attach one Entry Card on the front cover of each photo book. Additionally, if the photo book includes a case and you would like the case returned following the contest, as mentioned in Step 4 above, then please attach one Entry Card to the front cover of each photo book case.

6. Prepare Display Instructions for entry

If the display of your entry work requires special instructions, please the following procedure.

  1. Please prepare Display Instructions on one sheet of A4-size paper to ensure that the work is exhibited properly during the judging process. Please include diagrams and specify the Sequence Numbers of each individual item included in the work to make the instructions as easy to understand as possible. Also, please write down the Entry Number in one corner of the paper on which the Display Instructions are written.

  2. Please enclose the Display Instructions in an envelope but do not seal the envelope. On the front of the envelope, write : "Display Instructions enclosed" along with your Entry Number and include the envelope when you send in your entry work. The Display Instructions will be taken into careful consideration at screenings during the judging process.

If your work does not require any instructions regarding its display, there is no need to prepare the Display Instructions. Accordingly, the Secretariat will determine the optimal method of display at screenings during the judging process.

7. Pack entry
  1. If you have prepared Display Instructions for your entry, please be sure to include them with your entry work.
  2. After packing your entry, clearly write your Entry Number in an easy-to-notice location on the outside of the package, writing in large numbers and letters with a red water-resistant marker. Additionally, if your entry consists of multiple packages, please write the Sequence Number after the Entry Number on each package. (Ex. Should your work consist of three packages, the Sequence Numbers would be written : "1/3", "2/3" and "3/3")

Application from applicants under the age of 16

Applicants under the age of 16 require the consent of a parent or legal guardian to enter the contest. Please print out the Consent Form on a sheet of A4-size paper and have a parent or legal guardian sign the document. (The Consent Form was made available as a PDF file to be downloaded during entry application procedure using the Web Entry Application system.) Please send the signed Consent Form by postal mail to the following mailing address during the works acceptance period. Applicants under the age of 16 who do not submit a signed Consent Form will be disqualified from entry in the contest.
