A meeting, which was open to the public, of the selection committee that decides the Grand Prize winner of New Cosmos Photography 2011 (the 34th competition) was held at a hall located on the first floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography on Friday, November 11, 2011. The Open-Committee Meeting selected one individual from among this year's Excellence Award winners to receive the Grand Prize. At the 15:30 curtain time, almost all of the seats were filled with the many visitors who attended. You could feel the level of anticipation and interest at the selection committee meeting.
The participants made their appearance. The hall became quiet as Maya Akashika, Yoshiyuki Okuyama, Masanori Kito, Patrick Tsai, and Mariko Yamada nervously entered the hall. Next, the judges Katsumi Omori, Masafumi Sanai, Noi Sawaragi, Minoru Shimizu, and HIROMIX joined them on the stage to kick off the selection committee meeting.
