I photographed this work, VISGES, from 1989 to 1990 in the Normandie/Bretagne regions and Naples. The creative theme was to express various and mysterious pathos such as an awareness of the body, a longing for skin, or a curse through the face. I believe this awareness is also inherent in my own body and senses, as well as what confronts me.

The level of light and shadows are exemplary. These are first-class portraits. These people all have great expressions, as if they’ve been stage-directed. I like to see this kind of photography. Photographers sometimes have to be directors. The subject acts in front of the camera. By acting, a part of you that was hiding and you didn’t know existed sometimes surfaces. These portraits are impressively indicative of the essence and even the life story of each model.
