Joy is “to see.” I like joy, so I explored “seeing” and “the phenomenon and process of seeing.” I thought about what “seeing” means is a phenomenon, what happens to a viewer through seeing, what happens to “the viewed” by “being viewed,” and as a process, “the means of seeing.” I use these perspectives while creating a work:
* Photographer
* Photograph
* Photograph viewers
When photographers take a photo, they completely focus on “the act of seeing.” By focusing on “seeing,” their other functions disappear, and they might feel that even their bodies have disappeared. Actually, however, the photographers’ bodies move, react to the object, and have their bodies lent to the object, i.e., a camera subject. The photographed object becomes the target of the photographer and, at the same time, the recipient of the viewers’eyes. In taking pictures of the crystal objects for this work, I didn’t set up a special environment, I photographed them where they were sold, such as in boutiques and department stores. In creating my work, I’m interested not in the material or charm of the object itself, but in the physical and psychological movement at the moment of “viewing experience.”

Selecting judge: Lee Ka-shing

I love this work. Her selection for the object, her creative style, printing, lighting, and selection of lenses, are all good, and contribute to make it a painting-like artwork. I like this work so much.
