“Crape Myrtle”
Habitually I try to associate my feelings with my everyday life. Recently, I was sure that I should take photographs in my hometown in Ibaraki Prefecture. I made a set of images as if I was suffering some from some kind of sickness, so I found it difficult to understand why I took those photographs when I became well again. Looking over the pictures spread on the floor, I was at a loss what to do with them. When I realized that
I did not have an aesthetic sense, I said to myself that nothing was essential and I didn’t mind. I recalled that someone said to me, “A man needs to have conceit, vanity, style, and pride.” I photograph and print because I have conceit, and I continue to make presentations because I have vanity, style, and pride. I felt better.
