Floating and swaying view
In the rain
Almost falling asleep
Going back and forth on the borderline between sleep and awakening
I feel such a floating state.
It’s the same with a digital camera.
There is no intention to grasp ever-changing reality.
It is floating around in the air.
The image will be gone without leaving any trace, like rain.

PROFILE

Born in Hokkaido in 1979. Graduated from Tohoku University of Art & Design in 2002. Her entries were selected as excellent works at the 19th and 21st 3.3m2 Exhibition at Guardian Garden, Tokyo in 2002 and 2003. She is currently working as a freelance photographer.

Selecting judge: Risaku Suzuki

This time, her work shows us that she is brimming with confidence. While the image is light and witty, it is not a work based on casual ideas. A film camera can’t do such a job. That’s what a digital camera can do. A digital picture is a still from an animation after all. We can enjoy a picture that we were unable to see before. The evaluation is, however, made from a photographic standpoint. I think that the difference in media could have been made more recognizable in her work.
