Palla holds “REFLECTIONS2 ‘NARA’ / reflected forest”
Palla, an Excellence Award winner 2006 (the 29th competition) has organized “PALLALINK,” an artists’ unit, and displays a world of photo art using the Nara area as a motif. We hope that you will take this opportunity to enjoy the exhibition.
Excerpt from the exhibition’s press release:
“PALLALINK” is an artists’ unit organized around Palla (Kazuhiko Kawahara, photo), Bunsho Nishikawa (music and sound), and Masaki Higashionji (image/film).
So far, Palla/Kazuhiko Kawahara has produced works using urban scenes of Osaka as his main material. This time, however, he chose Nara for the material. His works in this exhibition present photo art based on a single scene he photographed at the primeval forest of Mt. Kasuga. The forest in Nara still looks as it did in ancient times even after a lapse of over a thousand years, and its beauty is wild yet awe-inspiring. It presents us with another view of Nara that lurks behind the appearance of this ancient capital. Photo art is produced in the process of repeatedly folding and overlapping a single photo. It is in this process in which the mysterious beauty of trees intertwined in a complicated way becomes even more remarkable. In this space where huge photo art, music, and images interact together, visitors will experience or reconfirm their feelings about the great depth of Nara where people have developed a unique culture in harmony with nature over its long history.
The artists’ intention of presenting a space that is full of all sorts of feelings by resonating different elements that compose art is indicated in the title “REFLECTIONS.” This is their second exhibition. When Nara is newly interpreted by artists, we can expect to encounter a Nara that has been unknown before.
